Sioux Center Man Taken To Hospital After Accident There

Sioux Center, Iowa — A Sioux Center man was taken to a hospital after a crash east of Sioux Center on Wednesday morning, June 25th.

The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office tells us that about 8:40 a.m., 66-year-old Elson Schut of Sioux Center was driving a 2022 Ford F-150 eastbound on 400th street, a mile east of Sioux Center. The report says he stopped for westbound vehicle traffic to pass before attempting a left turn into a private driveway. They say 27-year-old Ovidia Lopez-Lopez of Sioux Center, was driving a 2007 Chrysler Town & Country minivan eastbound on 400th Street behind Schut, and rear-ended his pickup.

The Sioux Center Ambulance took Schut to Sioux Center Health. His injuries were called “minor.”

The Schut Ford pickup sustained about $9,000 in damage, with the Lopez-Lopez Chrysler sustaining about $5,000 in damage.

Lopez-Lopez was cited for following too closely and operating a motor vehicle without a valid driver’s license.

The sheriff’s office says the Sioux Center Police Department, Sioux Center Ambulance Squad, and the Sioux Center Fire Department assisted them with the response to the accident.
