Sioux Falls Woman Faces Felony Charges In Connection With Car Theft In Rock Rapids

Rock Rapids, Iowa — A Sioux Falls woman has been arrested on felony theft and criminal mischief charges in connection with the theft of a car from Rock Rapids last December.

According to a criminal complaint filed with the Lyon County Clerk of Court’s Office by the county sheriff’s office, 22-year-old Danielle Dolan of Sioux Falls is accused of being one of two people who took the car. She was arrested on Tuesday.

In his statement, the deputy says the car was taken on December 8, 2023 and was recovered in Sioux Falls with over $4000 in damages done to the navigation screen and wiring underneath the headboard. A loose credit card was recovered inside the vehicle by Sioux Falls Police with Dolan’s name on it.

Deputies believe Dolan and her accomplice/boyfriend, Joseph Quick, were in Rock Rapids searching for a ride back to Sioux Falls for several hours that day. They say Quick was identified on video surveillance taking the Subaru and a second person was walking with him in the video but did not get close enough to the camera to be positively identified. They say Dolan and Quick were on video surveillance together at a neighboring convenience store and identified by multiple witnesses together throughout the day that day in Rock Rapids. The deputy says that when the Subaru dealer began repairing the vehicle they discovered a wallet tucked away in the vehicle which contained Dolan’s South Dakota driver’s license, social security card, and numerous other items with her name on them. A stocking cap was also recovered inside the Subaru that witnesses identified the defendant wearing while looking for a ride in Rock Rapids.

Dolan was charged with first-degree theft, a class C felony and second-degree criminal mischief, a class D felony. If convicted, she could face up to five years in prison on the mischief charge and ten years on the theft charge.

She faces a preliminary hearing on the charges on April 5th.

At last report, Dolan remained in the Lyon County Jail in Rock Rapids in lieu of a $15,000 bond.
