Orange City Fire Department Fights Bale Fire

Orange City, Iowa — The Orange City Fire Department was called out to a fire on Thursday, October 10, 2024, near Orange City.

According to Orange City Fire Chief Dan Roghair, at about 6:40 p.m., the Orange City Fire Department was called to the report of a cornstalk bale on fire near Indian Avenue and 420th Street, a mile west and three north of Orange City.

The chief says the fire department saw the cornstalk bale on fire as they approached the scene. He says the fire was caused by a hot part inside the baler, but apparently it wasn’t hot enough to damage the baler itself.

Roghair says no injuries were reported. He says they checked all the bales for hot spots just incase the baler had made any other bales that were smoldering.

Chief Roghair reports that the damage was limited to just the one bale.

He says the firefighters who responded were on the scene for about 45 minutes.
