Sioux Center, Iowa — A baler was destroyed in a fire on Friday night, October 24, 2025, near Sioux Center.
According to Sioux Center Fire Chief David Van Holland, at about 9:40 p.m., the Sioux Center Fire Department was called to the report of a baler fully engulfed near 360th Street and Hickory Avenue, two miles north and two miles east of Sioux Center.
When they got there, the chief says the fire department saw heavy flame. He says they used water to fight the fire.
Van Holland says no injuries were reported.
He says a bearing on the baler went out, causing high friction and high temperature, which ignited the cornstalks.
Chief Van Holland reports that the baler was totaled in the blaze, but the damage was limited to the baler.
He says the firefighters who responded were on the scene for about an hour.
