Sioux City, Iowa (RI) — A food bank that serves rural parts of the state is trying to help people who live in areas where there are not a lot of options to buy food.
The Food Bank of Siouxland Executive Director, Jacob Wanderscheid, says they work hard to get food into areas without grocery stores or access to nutritious foods.
Wanderscheid says they’re seeing a ten percent increase in people seeking assistance from a year ago, with more retirees than normal.
Wanderscheid says children are also impacted. One in five in the area he serves doesn’t have enough food. That’s higher than the state average.
