Orange City, Iowa — A South Dakota man has been sentenced to prison after pleading guilty to a felony assault charge stemming from a sexual abuse case involving a minor in Sioux County.
Sioux County Attorney Thomas Kunstle says 23-year-old Daniel Little Alvarado of Mission Hill, South Dakota, was sentenced on Monday for Assault with Intent to Commit Sexual Abuse, Causing Bodily Injury, a Class D Felony.
The case began in April 2024 when a minor reported being sexually assaulted over several months by Alvarado, a member of the household. Investigators with the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office recovered a prophylactic that was tested by the Iowa DCI Crime Lab, confirming DNA from both the victim and Alvarado.
Originally charged with Third-Degree Sexual Abuse, Alvarado pled guilty this fall to the reduced felony charge. He was sentenced to up to five years in the Iowa Department of Corrections. Upon release, he must complete a sex offender evaluation and treatment, register as a sex offender for life, have no contact with the victim for five years, and serve an additional ten-year special sentence under Iowa Code 903B, equivalent to parole supervision.
