Specials Enforcement Focusing on New Hands-Free Phone Law

Statewide Iowa (KUOO) — A special traffic enforcement campaign begins today across Iowa and will continue through Friday, April 10th.

Trooper Kevin Krull of the Iowa State Patrol says it will focus on the state’s hands-free law.

Krull says the special enforcement effort is being held in conjunction with National Distracted Driving Awareness Month in April.

He says the campaign is coordinated with the Iowa Governor’s Traffic Safety Bureau and will involve local law enforcement agencies as well as the Iowa State Patrol.

Iowa’s hands-free law took effect July 1st, 2025. Authorities began issuing fines to violators January 1st, 2026.
