Spencer Firefighters Extinguish House Fire Sunday Evening

Spencer, Iowa — After a four-year-old was critically injured in a fire on Friday in Spencer, now comes word that Spencer firefighters fought another house fire on Sunday.

Authorities say the Spencer Fire Department was called shortly after 10:30 pm Sunday night. Firefighters were called to 130 3rd Avenue East in Spencer and upon arriving, found heavy fire coming from the first floor. At the time, it was believed a child was in the home. Firefighters entered a second-floor window on the back of the home but did not locate a child. Authorities learned a short time later that the child was NOT in the home at the time of the fire.

The Dickens Fire Department was called for mutual aid as fire was found burning on the first and second floors of the home as well as in the attic. Heavy fire and smoke damage were reported throughout the residence. Firefighters were on the scene for several hours. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

The Spencer Police Department, Clay County Sheriff’s Office, Spencer Hospital paramedics, and Spencer Municipal Utilities assisted on the scene.
