Spirit Lake Man Accused In A Shooting Earlier This Year In Montgomery Pleads Guilty To Reduced Charge

Spirit Lake, Iowa — A plea deal has apparently been reached in the case of a Spirit Lake man accused in a shooting earlier this year in Montgomery. Caleb Crosby was originally charged with attempted murder and theft in the 1st degree. Online court records indicate Crosby has pled guilty to an amended charge of willful injury, a class “C” felony, and theft in the 1st degree, also a class “C” felony. Sentencing is set for October 28th.

Crosby is accused of shooting his father at his home in Montgomery around 5:20 pm on May 28th of this year. A criminal complaint alleges Crosby then stole a pickup from the same residence. He was located a short time later that same evening in Osceola County where he was arrested.

Crosby was originally scheduled to go on trial October 15th.

Crosby was also charged with escape from custody on June 1st of this year after allegedly trying to flee the Dickinson County jail. Court records show he has also pleaded guilty to that charge and is scheduled for sentencing on that as well on October 28th.
