Spirit Lake Man Charged With Attempted Murder Deemed Competent To Stand Trial

Spirit Lake, Iowa – A Spirit Lake man accused of trying to kill someone has been ruled mentally competent to stand trial.

Caleb Crosby was charged with attempted murder following a shooting on May 5th of this year in Montgomery that left the victim seriously injured. Crosby was arrested later that evening in Osceola County. Authorities say he allegedly tried to elude capture by stealing a couple of vehicles. Crosby is scheduled to go on trial on October 15th in Dickinson County District Court. He remains in the Dickinson County Jail on a $2,005,000 bond.

Crosby was also charged on May 31st after allegedly trying to escape from the Dickinson County Jail.

Crosby was arrested on multiple charges back in March of this year after allegedly trying to interfere at the scene of a fire in Montgomery. Montgomery is about a mile and a third northwest of Vick’s Corner, which is at the intersection of Highways 9 and 86.
