Ashton, Iowa — Officials with the state of Iowa have completed a routine check of a past year of financial transactions of the City of Ashton.
Auditor of State Rob Sand’s office tells us they have released a report on the City of Ashton for the year ended June 30, 2023. A copy of this report is available here.
Sand reported eleven findings related to the receipt and disbursement of taxpayer funds. The findings address issues such as a lack of segregation of duties, financial reporting, federal reporting, disbursements exceeding budgeted amounts before amendments, a deficit balance, and separately maintained accounts. Sand provided the City with recommendations to address each of the findings.
Sand says the City Council has a responsibility to provide oversight of the City’s operations and financial transactions.
