Storm Lake, Iowa — The Storm Lake Walmart store was evacuated after a suspicious package was found outside the building late last (Wed) night.
According to the Storm Lake Police Department, officials responded to the scene at 9:15 last night. The package was discovered near the Walmart propane exchange. Police, in coordination with the Storm Lake Fire Department and Walmart staff, evacuated the immediate area as a precaution. Investigators from the Iowa State Fire Marshal’s Office were requested to assist in the investigation.
Following a thorough investigation, the State Fire Marshal’s Office determined the package was not hazardous. The area was declared safe, and store operations resumed around 1am.

The Buena Vista County Sheriff’s Office, Buena Vista Regional Medical Center EMS, Storm Lake Public Works Department, and the Sioux City Fire Department Hazmat also assisted at the scene.
