Sutherland Man Faces First-Degree Burglary, Assault Charges

Sutherland, Iowa — A Sutherland man has been arrested on felony charges after an alleged assault in Sutherland.

According to a police complaint filed in O’Brien County, 35-year-old Devon Jones of Sutherland allegedly entered a private home on Sunday and assaulted two women. He was arrested on Tuesday.

In the statement, the Sutherland Police officer says Jones entered a home in Sutherland and physically assaulted two victims. He is accused of choking, dragging, and striking with both his fists and a wrench. He is also accused of being in possession of a crossbow and pointing it at officers.

Jones was charged with first-degree burglary, a class B felony; two counts of willful injury causing serious injury, a class D felony; and intimidation with a dangerous weapon and assault while participating in a felony, both class C felonies. If convicted, Jones could face up to 25 years in prison on the class B count, ten years on the class C count, and five years apiece on the class D counts. He also faces a misdemeanor count of assault causing bodily injury.

A preliminary hearing has been scheduled for November 11th.

At last report, Jones remained in the O’Brien County Jail in Primghar in lieu of bond.
