Three From Sibley Face Felony Assault Charges

Sibley, Iowa — Three Sibley men have been arrested on felony assault charges after an apparent assault in Sibley.

According to a criminal complaint filed with the Osceola County Clerk of Court’s Office by the county sheriff’s office, 26-year-old Nicolas Hernandez Ruiz, 25-year-old Marcos Guzman Hernandez, and 34-year-old Aurelio Ruiz Guzman, all of Sibley, are accused of assaulting a single victim.

In his statement, the deputy says he responded to a 911 call, and when he got there, he noticed the front door of the home was damaged and covered in blood. While he was conducting interviews at the home, he says the Osceola Regional Hospital Emergency Room informed the Sheriff’s Office that they were treating an adult male for a stab wound to the back of his neck. The Deputy says he went to the E.R., and after speaking with the patient it was apparent he was the victim.

The deputy says the victim was not able to provide the names of who assaulted him, but he described three adult males and said he would be able to identify them if they were brought forward. He says the suspects were brought
forward to the victim, who identified his alleged attackers. They were arrested and transported to the Osceola County Jail.

All three were charged with assault with intent to inflict serious injury/violation of individual rights, a class D felony; willful injury causing serious injury, a class C felony; and a misdemeanor count of assault while displaying a dangerous weapon. If convicted of class C felonies, they could face up to ten years in prison, and/or five years if convicted of a class D felony.

All three face a preliminary hearing on the charges on January 16th.

At last report, all three remained in the Osceola County Jail in Sibley in lieu of identical $20,000 bonds.
