Truck Sustains Severe Damage In Tuesday Fire South Of Orange City

Orange City, Iowa — A tandem-axel straight truck was damaged in a fire on Tuesday, September 30, 2025, near Orange City.

According to Orange City Fire Assistant Chief Al Jeltema, at about 11:20 a.m., the Orange City Fire Department was called to the report of a truck on fire at 480th & Jackson Avenue, three miles south of the K64 and Highway 10 stoplight in Orange City.

The chief says the fire department saw the cab portion of the truck fully engulfed in flames as they approached the scene. He says they used water and foam to fight the fire.

Assistant Chief Jeltema says no injuries were reported.

Alton firefighters provided automatic aid.

He says the cause of the fire appeared to have been something under the hood. He tells us the driver stated he heard a pop and then started seeing smoke coming into the cab. According to Jeltema, the driver told him he had been driving the truck to Orange City to get repair work done when the fire happened. He pulled off on a gravel road to get off the main road and try to keep nearby fields from catching flame.

Assistant Chief Jeltema reports that the chassis was probably totaled to the tune of $100,000-125,000 in damage, but he says the dump bed is probably salvageable.

He says the firefighters who responded were on the scene for 45 minutes to an hour.
