Two Dead After Ireton Area Crash

Craig, Iowa– An Elk Point man and a Le Mars woman have died as the result of an accident near Craig on Saturday, August 17, 2024.

The Iowa State Patrol reports that at about 10:30 p.m. , 43-year-old Julio Pena of Le Mars was driving a 2000 Chevy pickup eastbound on C12, three miles west and five south of Ireton or three miles west of Craig. They tell us that 21-year-old Courtney Johnson of Sioux City was southbound on K22 in a 2017 Ford Transit ambulance. They say the private ambulance had one medic and one patient, but was not in emergency status.

The trooper’s report says that Pena failed to stop at the intersection at K22, and was struck by the ambulance.
