UPDATE: Three People Have Now Died After Granville House Fire; Names Released

UPDATE: The names of the victims in the fatal fire near Granville on Monday have been released.

Authorities say fire personnel discovered four people inside the home in critical condition. They were transported by ambulance services to Orange City Area Health, where 17-year-old Kolten Hofmeyer of Alton died as a result of injuries sustained in the fire. Three other victims were flown to specialty units at other hospitals for further treatment. We’re told 16-year-old Bryleigh Koob and 17-year-old Ashton Koob, both of Granville, died as a result of their injuries. A 16-year-old male from Alton remains in critical condition at a hospital burn unit in Minnesota.

Granville, Iowa — Two people have died as a result of a house fire in Granville early Monday morning.

Granville Fire Chief Karl Kellen tells us that a few minutes before 5:00 a.m., they were paged for the call of a residential fire that occurred at a home on 430th Street, two and a half miles northwest of Granville.

When they got there, Granville firefighters discovered the home to be filled with heavy smoke. Mutual fire assistance was received from the Hospers Fire Department.

Fire personnel discovered four people inside the residence in critical condition. Ambulance service transported the victims to Orange City Area Health. One person died at Orange City Area Health as a result of their injuries. The other three people were flown to specialty units at other hospitals for further treatment of their injuries. One of those people later died as a result of their injuries

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Granville Fire Chief in conjunction with the Iowa State Fire Marshal.

Kellen says the Granville department was assisted by the the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office, the Hospers Fire Department, and ambulance services from Alton, Orange City, Granville, Hospers, Paullina, and Sheldon.

Names of the deceased and injured are being withheld pending further investigation and notification of family members.

The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office says MOC-FV High School faculty and staff along with clergy and pastoral support from area churches will be available throughout this week for anyone connected to or affected by this tragic event. Sheriff Jamie Van Voorst also encourages people to pray for the victims and their families.
