Sioux Center, Iowa– Two people from Sioux Center were taken to the hospital after an accident in Sioux Center on Monday, September 15, 2025.
The Sioux Center Police Department reports that at about 1:20 p.m., 53-year-old Michael Leusink of Orange City was driving a 2005 Peterbilt semi northbound on Highway 75 in Sioux Center. They tell us that 71-year-old Janice Nyhuis of Sioux Center was southbound on 75 in a 2005 Ford.
The report says that Nyhuis had the green light at the 9th Street intersection. Leusink was traveling north and attempted to make a left turn at the intersection to head west. The officer says Leusink admitted he did not see Nyhuis, and she would have had the green light. Leusink failed to yield to Nyhuis when he made his left turn, and Leusink collided with Nyhuis in the intersection.
The Sioux Center Ambulance took Nyhuis and a passenger in her vehicle, 43-year-old Roger Nyhuis to Sioux Center Health Hospital.
Leusink’s Peterbilt semi, which is owned by Visser Elevator of Sioux Center, sustained $1500 in damages, and Nyhuis’s Ford sustained $3000 in damages.
Leusink was charged with failure to yield upon left turn.
