Two Taken To Hospital After Hartley Car Vs. Cow Accident

Hartley, Iowa– A Spencer man was taken to the hospital after an accident with a cow near Hartley on Wednesday, August 14, 2024.

The O’Brien County Sheriff’s Office has just released a report that states that at about 9:05 p.m., 76-year-old Ronald Pingel of Spencer was driving a 2013 Toyota SUV westbound on Highway 18, one mile east of Hartley.


The report says that Pingel struck a black Angus cow owned by Randy Menke, which was standing in the roadway. The cow had broken through a fence of a nearby pasture. The cow was killed.

The Hartley Ambulance took Pingel and a passenger in the vehicle, 67-year-old Cynthia Pingel, to Spencer Hospital.

Pingel’s Toyota SUV sustained $20,000 in damage, which totaled the vehicle.
