UDMO Continues To Experience Increases In Requests For Assistance

Spirit Lake, Iowa — An agency that provides services to low-income residents in a number of northwest Iowa counties continues to see a high demand for assistance.

Julie Edwards, the Executive Director of Upper Des Moines Opportunity, says while they are seeing an increase in the number of people seeking their services, there’s one area that saw a decrease due to a drop in funding availability.

Edwards adds UDMO recently received several grants to assist with housing needs.

Edwards added that 38 percent of households served by Upper Des Moines Opportunity receive SNAP benefits.

Edwards made her comments during her recent annual report to the Dickinson County Board of Supervisors in Spirit Lake. Upper Des Moines serves O’Brien and Osceola counties in our area, as well as Buena Vista, Clay, Dickinson, Emmet, Hamilton, Humboldt, Palo Alto, and Pocahontas counties.
