Northwest Iowa — Utility companies are reminding residents of the importance of making sure your natural gas meter is clear of snow and ice build-up. Marissa Gaal, Public Affairs Manager with Black Hills Energy, says not doing that could potentially cause some serious issues.
Gaal says you should use your hands, a brush, or a broom to carefully clear snow away from the meter and to never use a snow shovel or snow blower near the meter.
She says it’s also important to make sure outdoor vents aren’t clogged with snow and ice. Newer high-efficiency furnaces won’t run safely or efficiently, or maybe not even at all, if vents are blocked.
Black Hills serves approximately 160,000 customers in Iowa, including gas customers in Paullina and Primghar in our area, as well as in several nearby communities in Dickinson, Clay, and Cherokee counties.
