Virtual Driver’s License Now Available On Apple Devices

Ames, Iowa — The Iowa Department of Transportation says the availability of their virtual driver’s license is expanding.

The DOT says you can now load your Iowa driver’s license or ID to Apple Wallet on your iPhone and Apple Watch. Once you do that you can present the ID in Apple Wallet in person at select TSA checkpoints. The DOT says you can securely present your ID in Apple Wallet in person and in apps to show proof of age or identity. The virtual driver’s license has already been available on Android devices.

The DOT says any law enforcement agency MAY accept mobile ID on your smartphone, but they are still working with law enforcement agencies on how they can implement verification processes for mobile ID. As not all law enforcement agencies will accept mobile ID, they tell us you should still carry your traditional ID or driver’s license.
