Northwest Iowa — Warm and dry conditions last week allowed producers to make significant planting progress.
According to the Iowa crop progress report from the USDA, 91 percent of northwest Iowa corn has been planted with 39 percent emerged. Statewide, corn planted reached 76 percent, which is eight days ahead of last year and three days ahead of the five-year average. Corn emerged reached 30 percent, four days ahead of last year, and two days better than the average.
Northwest Iowa soybeans planted reached 73 percent with 19 percent emerged. Statewide, 64 percent of soybeans have been planted, ten days ahead of last year and five days ahead of the five-year average. Soybeans emerged reached 16 percent.
There were 6.7 days suitable for fieldwork in northwest Iowa, and nearly 6.5 days were suitable statewide.
53 percent of northwest Iowa topsoil has adequate moisture, and 62 percent of subsoil in northwest Iowa has adequate moisture.
