Webinar to Focus on Training Heifers for Robotic Milking Success

Undated — The Extension dairy program called “I-29 Moo University” will continue its Dairy Webinar Series later this month.

Extension officials tell us the webinar will be on Tuesday, October 21st, from noon to 1 p.m. The session will feature University of Minnesota Dairy Extension Educator Jim Salfer, who will discuss training and pre-training heifers for success in robotic milking systems.

They tell us that Salfer, a regional educator with 22 years of experience, has led on-farm research on robotic milking and automatic calf feeders. His program helps producers improve profitability by understanding key management factors in modern dairy operations.

Officials say the webinar will share research-based tips on integrating heifers into automated milking setups through early exposure, positive reinforcement, and hands-on training to reduce stress and optimize performance.

The event is free, but participants must register at least one hour before it begins.
