Agnes Konz

Agnes Konz, age 92 of Alton, IA passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Wednesday, Oct. 2, 2024, at Prairie Ridge Care Center in Orange City, Iowa. 

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Oct. 7, 2024, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Alton, Iowa with Rev. Daniel Greving officiating and Deacon Dan Goebel assisting.  Burial will follow at the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Alton. 

Visitation with family present will be 4-7 p.m. on Sunday, there will be a rosary and vigil prayer service at 5 p.m. all at the Church in Alton.  Visitation will resume from 9:30-10:15 a.m. on Monday at the church.

Agnes was born Aug. 7, 1932, at her rural family home near Alton, the daughter of William and Olivia (Minten) Pottebaum.  Her mother died April 9, 1935.  She was raised by her father and older siblings on the family farm.  She attended St. Mary’s Academy Catholic School graduating in 1950.  After graduation, she continued to keep house for her brother and dad.  In 1952 her dad remarried and moved to Marcus, IA.  She remained at home. On Aug. 4, 1953 Agnes married Francis Konz at St. Mary Catholic Church in Alton.  The couple moved to the Konz family farm where they lived until Oct. 2002 when they moved into Alton.  She was employed at Orange City Area Health System for 26 years.  Francis died May 14, 2004. Agnes was a member of St. Mary’s Church, Rosary Society & Guild.  Catholic Order of Foresters, American Legion Auxiliary, and a 50-year member of the Catholic Daughters at Remsen, IA.

Aggie spent most of her life raising her children and helping her husband on the family farm.  She instilled the importance of family and faith in her children and grandchildren.  She was a great cook, feeding everyone who came to her home.  She left a legacy of love.  You never left her house or hung up the phone without her saying “Love You More”.

She is survived by her 7 children, Kay (Denny) Koob of Granville, IA, Ann (Willie) Brungardt of Waukee, IA, Mike (Rhonda) Konz of Alton, IA, Dale (Joleen) Konz of Alton, IA, Janet (Tim) Zinnel of Fort Dodge, IA, Cari (Matt) Lawler of Sioux City, IA, Brian (Sheri) Konz of Alton, IA; one daughter-in-law, Patty (Tom) Kiernan of Alton, IA; 27 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; her sister, Wilma Loutsch of Dysart, IA; sisters-in-law, Rita Pottebaum of Yuba City, CA, Dolores Konz of Alton, IA. She was preceded in death by, her parents; her husband; her son, Kenny Konz; granddaughter, Rachel Lawler; great-grandson, Jacob Koob; brothers, Melvin Pottebaum, Louis Pottebaum, LeVern (Barbara) Pottebaum; sisters, Verna (Bill) Wittkop, Lorraine (Arnold) Kreber, Dorothy (Bill) Scheitler; step-mother, Marian Pottebaum; her in laws, John & Theresa (Mousel) Konz; sisters-in-law, Margaret (Wally) Lehnertz, Vi (Ray) Krier, Le (Omar) Ricke; brothers-in-law, Bob Loutsch, Robert (Bernice) Konz, Cletus (Mary) Konz, Pete Konz, Ron Konz, Ferdinand & Melvin Konz in infancy. Casket bearers will be Matt Konz, Jamie Koob, Josh Brungardt, Adam Konz, Justin Konz, Nathan Lawler, Braden Konz.
