Albert Nichols

Albert Nichols, age 84, of Albia, passed away Monday, December 29, 2014, at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines.

Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, January 3, 2015 at Tharp Funeral Home in Albia, with Pastor Brad Gray Officiating.  Burial will follow services at Service Chapel Cemetery in Monroe County. There is no visitation planned.

An open memorial has been established in Albert’s name.

Albert was born January 24, 1930 to Albert Sr. and Annabelle (Moore) Nichols in Burlington Junction, Missouri. He graduated from the Chillicothe School for the Deaf with the class of 1947. On June 8, 1990 he married Helene Sorgdrager in Rock Valley, IA.

Albert worked at Desko in Burlington. He later worked and retired from the Newton Foundry. Albert enjoyed being outdoors, fishing, puzzles, cooking, and watching the Iowa Hawkeyes and Denver Broncos.

He is survived by his wife, Helene of Albia; his children, Lou Ann Willard of Eagle Grove, Kim Jackson of Newton, John (Kristy) Nichols of Waterloo, Ron Nichols of Waterloo and Melissa (Nathan) Smith of Eagle Grove; 10 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; his step-children, Mark (Janet) Brown of Orange City, Jody (Tim) Gardner of Albia, and Susan Mouw (Craig Verdoorn) of Sanborn, IA; 4 step-grandchildren; a brother, Bob Nichols; and a sister, Eva Hatfield. Albert is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents; a son, Rick Moore; two sisters, Helen Zimmerman and Ella Hatfield; and two brothers, Lawaren Nichols and James Nichols.
