Mr. Arwin Sneller, age 52, of Doon, passed away on Saturday, August 9, 2014, at the George Community Good Samaritan Society.
There will be a funeral service on Tuesday, August 12, at 5:30pm, at the First Reformed Church in Hull. The Rev. Kevin Yurk will officiate. Interment will follow at the Hope Cemetery in Hull. Visitation with the family will be on Tuesday, from 4:00pm to 5:15pm, at the church. Arrangements are with the Oolman Funeral Home in Hull.
Arwin Harlan was born on May 14, 1962, in Sioux Center, the son of Henry E. and Marie Elizabeth (Scholten) Sneller. He was raised on the family farm east of Doon, where he helped his father and brother. He liked doing chores, especially feeding calves.
He attended the Central Lyon Schools in Doon and Rock Rapids and graduated from the River Valley School in Rock Valley.
On August 16, 2012, Arwin became a resident of the Good Samaritan Society. The staff there enjoyed him and had fun caring for him.
He was a member of the First Reformed Church and attended Friendship Bible classes. He had a unique personality and his own way of communicating with others.
Arwin enjoyed listening to the radio, very loudly, watching the Minnesota Twins and the Minnesota Vikings (an avid fan), watching figure 8 and Nascar races, and playing UNO and other games.
Survivors include his sister, Lavonne DeJong; and two brothers, Eldon Sneller, and his wife, Lori, and Leon Sneller, all of Doon; four nephews, Brad Sneller, and his wife, Terri; Chad Sneller, and his wife Stacy; Scott DeJong; and Steven De Jong; a great nephew, Gavin Sneller; and two great nieces, Braelyn Sneller and Taryn Odens.
In addition to his parents and grandparents, he was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Willard “Will” DeJong.
