Bud Petitt, age 89, of Sheldon, Iowa passed away on Saturday, December 20, 2014 at the Sanford Sheldon Senior Care in Sheldon, Iowa. His service will be 1:00 P.M. Tuesday, December 23, 2014 at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Sheldon with Rev. Craig Nissen ~ officiating.
Burial will be in the St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery in Sheldon.Visitation will be after 3:00pm on Monday, December 22, 2014, with the family present from 5:00 – 7:00pm at the Vander Ploeg Funeral Home in Sheldon.

Grover Cleveland Petitt Jr., the son of Grover and Mary (Schneider) Petitt was born on May 3, 1925 near Sanborn, Iowa. At age 5 his family moved to Sheldon where he received his education up to enlisting with the United States Navy at age 17 in 1943. He attended boot camp at Farragut, Idaho and returned to Portland, Oregon. He was commissioned on the U.S.S. Gambier Bay in the South Pacific. He was honorably discharged in 1947. He married Shirley Vonderharr on March 26, 1949, to this union four sons were born. The couple later divorced. On June 8, 1974 he married Darlene Walstrom. Bud was a mechanic for Al Dueis Motors and began as a patrolman for the Sheldon Police Department on March 15, 1963 till July 18, 1968. He was promoted to assistant chief on July 19, 1968 until his retirement on June 30, 1987. Bud passed away on Saturday, December 20, 2014 at the Sanford Sheldon Senior Care in Sheldon, reaching the age of 89 years, 6 months and 25 days.
Bud was a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Sheldon and the McGlothlen-Cowie Post #145 American Legion in Sheldon, Iowa. He enjoyed rolling skating throughout the years.
Left to cherish Bud’s memory is his four sons and their spouses, Gary and Donna Petitt of Sheldon, Iowa, Ed and Rhonda Petitt of Boyden, Iowa, Scott and Natosha Petitt of Sutherland, Iowa, and Keith and Tiffany Petitt of Sheldon, Iowa; eleven grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren; brother, Paul and his wife Mitzi Petitt of Gillette, Wyoming; sister, Eleanor McDuffy of Des Moines, Iowa; also other relatives and friends.
Bud was preceded in death by his wife, Darlene; parents; two brothers, Ed and Bill; six sisters, Dolly, Helen, Hilda, Nina, Mary and Betty.
