Cynthia Sue Iedema, age 56 of Sibley, died, April 19, 2014, at her home near Sibley, IA.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. April 23, 2014, at St. Andrew’s Catholic Church in Sibley with Fr. John Vakulskas and Fr. Tim Hogan as concelebrants. Inurnment will follow at St. Andrew’s Catholic Cemetery in Sibley.
Visitation will be April 22, 2014 from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with family present from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Jurrens Funeral Home Walton Chapel of Sibley. There will be a Rosary at 5:30 p.m. and a Vigil service at 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
Cynthia (“Cindy”) Sue Iedema was born August 20, 1957 in Sibley, IA to Robert and Beverly (Swalve) Nasers. She was raised on her family farm outside of Sibley. She attended Kindergarten through 7th grade at St. Andrews Catholic School in Sibley and graduated from Sibley High School. Cindy continued her education at Mankato State University, in Mankato, Minnesota, earning a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Social Work. She was a social worker for the Iowa Department of Human Services and retired in January 2013.
On September 29, 1979, she was united in marriage to Clark Iedema. The couple made their home on the farm north of Sibley, where they remained the entire 34 years of their marriage. She was a member of St. Andrew’s Catholic Church in Sibley, a member of The Catholic Daughters of America, and regularly attended Bible study at St. Andrews. She loved attending sporting events for her daughters, Nicole and Kally, and also for her many nieces and nephews. She also enjoyed genealogy, country music and attending country music concerts, Broadway musicals, cross-country skiing, and most of all spending time with family and friends.
Important moments in her life included seeing her daughters graduate from college, Nicole and Nathan’s wedding, and family vacations. Most recently, in February of 2014, 16 members of the family traveled together to Cancun, Mexico. It was a wonderful and memorable time for all. In May of 2011, Cindy was diagnosed with breast cancer, a battle that she fought for 3 years. Cindy passed away at her home surrounded by family at the age of 56. She will be greatly missed.
She is survived by her husband, Clark Iedema of Sibley, IA; daughters, Nicole (Nathan) Rockman of Sibley, IA and Kally Iedema (Brad Norwood) of West Des Moines, IA; her parents Robert and Beverly Nasers of Sibley, IA; sister, Deb (Jeff) Kohn of Harris, IA; brother, Greg (Michelle) Nasers of Sibley, IA; and brother, Scott (Mindy) Nasers of Sibley, IA; many nieces, nephews and extended family members.
Cindy was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Roy and Genevieve Nasers; maternal grandparents, Edwin and Isabelle Swalve; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Martin and Thilda Iedema.
