Dorothy Mae Kruger was born on July 13, 1932 in George, IA, the daughter of Alvin and Tillie (Geerdes) Nicks. She grew up in Little Rock, IA and graduated from Little Rock High School. Upon graduation, she worked at the Sibley Light Plant. On a fateful snowy day as she was walking through the snow to work, she was offered a ride; a relationship grew from that day. On June 20, 1952, Dorothy and Gaylord were united in marriage at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, IA. The couple lived and farmed in partnership, on the Kruger farmstead for over 50 years and then later moved to Sioux Falls, SD. They also wintered in Arizona for over 25 years. Dorothy’s faith was evident as she participated in choir, taught Sunday school and helped others at both the Presbyterian and First Reformed Church in Sibley. While living in Sioux Falls she volunteered her time at the Avera Hospital.

Special times included neighborhood coffees, family picnics, time with friends, making memories with the “Golden Girls” and watching her family grow. Always the faithful partner, Dorothy helped build the Kruger farmstead, enjoying all aspects of farm life. Other joys included playing the organ and her children often heard her playing as they got off the bus after school. Her past times included painting, reading and she was also a great cook. She loved to square dance and was a member of the Levi’s and Lace Square Dance Club. The happiest days of her life were spending time with her family, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

Dorothy is survived by her husband of sixty-two years, Gaylord Kruger of Sibley, IA; five children: Deborah (Gerald) Alons of Sanborn, IA; Marcia (Don) Faas of Sanborn, IA; Donna (Jon) Terpstra of Marne, MI; Gerald (Michelle) Kruger of Sioux Falls, SD; and Nola (Dave) Trei of Sioux Falls, SD. She was blessed with fourteen grandchildren and six great grandchildren; one brother, Robert (Treva) Nicks of Arizona; one brother-in-law, Richard (JoAnn) Kruger of Sibley, IA; and many other extended family and friends.

Her parents; parents-in-law; and one grandchild preceded her in death.
