Geneva Betty (Efting) Petersen was born on September 9, 1922, to Gerrit and Mary Efting. She was raised in the Sibley area and graduated from Sibley High School in 1941. She later was married to Donald Petersen, with whom she had three children.

Geneva was a kind and gentle person who treasured her family. She doted on her grandchildren and many wonderful memories were created at gram’s house. Until her health prevented it, she could be found enjoying company at Dinner Date, having coffee at the local bakery, playing cards at Jack Rabbit, looking for treasures at the New Beginnings, and checking out garage sales. She joyously decorated for every holiday and made the best fudge ever! She especially looked forward to her yearly trip to Branson and her trips to the Twin Cities, where she enjoyed thrifting and the State Fair. Geneva appreciated the simple things in life: Wheel of Fortune, listening to country music, doing word finds, reading, tea time, fishing, camping, hunting wild asparagus, taking rides around town (especially at Christmas time), and tending her zinnias and other flowers.

She was a member of the United Church of Christ where she was active in the Women’s Club, serving as secretary. Later she was blessed with the counsel and friendship of Pastor Simm of the Sibley Presbyterian Church.

Geneva is survived by her three children: Mary Jo (Robert) McNeal, Woodbury, Minnesota; Susan (Gary) Stoner, Cottage Grove, Minnesota; Douglas (Connie) Petersen, Worthington, Minnesota. She was blessed with 8 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren.

Her husband, Don, proceeded her in death in 1983. All of her siblings and their spouses preceded her in death as well; John (Sally) Efting, Elmer (Mary) Efting, Bill, (Lu) Efting, LaSalle Gasahl and Shirley Efting. She was also preceded in death by her stepson Gilbert Petersen and his wife, Shirley.

The family wishes to thank Country View Manor staff for their compassionate care and comfort they provided Geneva during her last years.

May God hold her lovingly in the palm of His hand, until we meet again.
