Jim Vogt, age 58 of Rock Rapids, IA died unexpectedly at his home in Rock Rapids on Friday, January 3, 2014.
Memorial service will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, January 9, 2014 at Christian Church (Disciples) in Rock Rapids, IA with Rev. Carolyn Salberg officiating.
Visitation will be Wednesday, January 8, 2014 from 4 to 8 p.m. with family present from 6 to 8 p.m. at Christian Church (Disciples) in Rock Rapids.
James “Jim” William Vogt was born August 10, 1955 in Worthington, MN to William “Bill” and Dixie (Dirks) Vogt. Jim grew up and attended school in Rock Rapids, IA. After graduating from Central Lyon High School in 1973 he began working with his father Bill in the family business. In 1986, Jim married Mary Campbell at the Christian Church Disciples. They made their home in Rock Rapids and were blessed with two children, Brittany and Kelsey. Jim and Mary divorced in 2003. Jim continued to work with his father and brother Mike at Vogt’s Plumbing and Heating in Rock Rapids for over 30 years. For the past two years Jim was employed by DRG Mechanical.
Shortly after work Friday, January 3, 2014, Jim passed away unexpectedly at his home in Rock Rapids. Jim was a longtime member of the Christian Church Disciples. He enjoyed sports of all kinds and had been a league bowler, gun club trap shooter, and golfed at the Rock River Golf and Country club. An avid Hawkeye fan, Jim could be found watching various sports at the Pool Hall in Rock Rapids with loyal friends. He will be fondly remembered as a hardworking and honest, devoted son, brother, and father.
He is survived by his daughters, Brittany Vogt (Ben Uphoff) of Sioux Falls, SD; and Kelsey Vogt of Fargo, ND; his mother, Dixie Vogt of Rock Rapids; his brother, Mike (Nancy) Vogt of Rock Rapids; his nephew Mitch; nieces Karmen and Kristina; and other extended family members.
Jim was preceded in death by his father, Bill Vogt.
