Joan G. Mullin

Joan G. Mullin, age 77, of Sheldon, Iowa passed away on Wednesday, May 23, 2012 at the Country View Manor in Sibley, Iowa.

Her service will be 10:30am Saturday, May 26, 2012 at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Sheldon, Iowa with Fr. Allan Reicks ~ officiating. Burial will be in the St. Patrick Catholic Cemetery in Sheldon, Iowa.

Visitation will be Friday, May 25th after 2:00pm with the family present from 6:00 – 8:00pm at the Vander Ploeg Funeral Home in Sheldon, A Christian Wake Service will be at 7:00pm and a CD of A Rosary will be at 7:30pm Friday at the Funeral Home.

Joan Gertrude Mullin, daughter of Otto and Charlotte (Full) Hodapp, was born September 1, 1934 in Granville, Iowa. She attended school in Granville and graduated from St. Joseph Catholic High School in 1952. Joan was united in marriage to Daniel S. Mullin on April 27, 1957 in Granville. They made their home on a farm south of Sheldon, near Hospers.  To this union five children were born. Dan preceded her in death on December 1, 1985 in Sioux Falls, SD. After his death Joan worked for Wolf’s Department Store in Sheldon before going back to school at NCC and WIT to get her RN degree.  Joan worked as an RN in Sheldon, Mercy Hospital in Sioux City, and the Paullina Care Center in Paullina, Iowa. She passed away on Wednesday, May 23, 2012, at Country View Manor in Sibley, Iowa, at the age of 77 years, 8 months, and 22 days.

Joan was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Sheldon, Catholic Daughters of America, and the Churches Ladies Guild. She enjoyed reading, painting, sewing, gardening, and she loved to travel.

Joan is survived by her four children, Tim Mullin and wife Cheri, of Hospers, IA; Kathleen Mullin and husband Alan Fukushima, of Ames, IA; Peggy Pohlen and husband Dan, of Hospers, IA; Patty Engelhardt and husband Tim, of Elkader, IA; 14 grandchildren, Christi (Kendall) Anderson, Josh (Sheryl) Weber, April (Travis) Klein, Bridget (Colton) Eich, and Sean Mullin; Katie Fukushima; Aaron, Sarah, Thomas, and Alex  Pohlen; Amber, Erin, Nick, and Josh Engelhardt; 10 great-grandchildren; 4 sisters, Elaine Callahan of Sibley, IA; Alice Wittkop of Marcus, IA; Margie and Allen Bergeson of Wall Lake, SD; Georgia and Francis Croat of Onamia, MN; and other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dan; infant son, Michael; grandson, Michael Pohlen; her parents; and brother, Conrad Hodapp.
