Lucille “Lucy” Ada Dagel was born December 8, 1925, in Brewster, MN, the daughter of Charlie and Sarah (Elgin) Dagel. The family lived on a farm near Brewster until ‘The Great Depression” happened. Then they moved to Sibley, IA, where Lucy’s father could find work. As a young lady Lucille worked at the hospital and the local Dime Store. Lucy met a young man named Dale Pedley at her aunt Cecil’s home. Lucy and Dale had a wonderful courtship, and Dale entered the U.S. Army. They married before his deployment at Dale’s parents’ home. While Dale was serving his country, Lucy lived on Dale’s family farm with his parents, helping with the day-to-day chores on the farm. She then moved to Biloxi, MS, to be with Dale. Dale was transferred to Murry, UT and Lucy worked at a bakery. After Dale’s honorable discharge they returned home to live on Dale’s parents’ farm a short time, before moving into Sibley.
Lucy and Dale were blessed with their son, Larry. They moved to Minneapolis, MN for a year, returning to Sibley. There they were able to build a home. Lucy worked at the Ben Franklin Store for 33 years.
Lucy and Dale enjoyed fishing trips to Canada. Lucy also maintained a large garden every year and canned all the vegetables. She enjoyed camping, fishing, painting, playing cards, and the neighborhood coffee group. Later in life Lucy helped her son, Larry at the Max Theater of Sibley, where she served popcorn.
She was a member of the United Church of Christ in Sibley, active with various church activities.
In October of 2017, Lucy became a resident of the Osceola Senior Living in Sibley, where she remained until her death this past Monday, December 15, 2025, at the age of 100 years.
