Luella Taylor

Luella TaylorLuella Taylor, age 91 of Hartley, IA, passed away at Prairie View Nursing Home in Sanborn, IA on Saturday, March 29th, 2014.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 3rd at 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Hartley. Visitation will be Wednesday, April 2nd from 2:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Hartley Funeral Home Chapel in Hartley. The family will be present at the visitation from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday evening. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.sanborn-hartleyfuneralhomes.com. Luella Mae Taylor, daughter of Clarence Henry and Martha Irene (Clarke) Mayer- Schoenrock was born September 24, 1922 one-half mile north of May City, IA at the home of her grandparents in Harrison Twp.

The family moved to Saskatchewan, Canada and lived there for several years, during which time Luella was baptized at Ori De Tanfe. She also attended grade school for a time in Canada. When she was 10, the family moved to Dunlap, Hawarden, and Dow City, IA before relocating back to May City her sophomore year in high school. Following graduation from Hartley High School, Luella attended summer school in LeMars, IA, obtaining her teaching certificate. She worked at various jobs and taught country school in Osceola County, IA for four and one-half years.

On June 20, 1945, Luella was united in marriage to Quentin Lawrason Taylor at St. John’s Lutheran Church in May City. She was confirmed there as well on April 6, 1952. Quentin and Luella farmed in the Hartley area their entire married life, retiring to the town of Hartley.

Luella enjoyed gardening and canning the produce. She also spent her leisure time sewing, doing crafts and refinishing furniture, although her true pleasure came from raising, and taking care of her family. Luella was a member of the Health Center Auxiliary and Friday Club. She was active in the Democratic party, serving as an election official for 35 years. A member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, she participated in church activities and the Rachel Circle. Luella passed away at Prairie View Nursing Home in Sanborn on Saturday, March 29, 2014 at the age of 91 years.

Left to cherish her memory are her loving husband of 69 years, Quentin; her six children and their spouses: Gregory (Sue) Taylor of Coolige, AZ, Rodney (Pat) Taylor of Brooklyn Park, MN, Stanley (Pat) Taylor of Indianola, IA, Roann Ray of Rockford, IL, Monette (Paul) Lundquist of Ponsford, MN and Bradley (Cindy) Taylor of Hartley, IA; 11 grandchildren; 8 step-grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren; sister, Ruth (Lueck) Handy, of Golden Valley, MN; sisters-in-law: Marge (Taylor) Paulsen of Sanborn, IA, and Joan Taylor of Hartley, IA; other relatives and friends.
Preceding her in death were her parents; son-in-law, Erwin Ray (2007); brothers-in-law: Stanley Lueck, Dick Handy, Lynford Taylor and Gaylord Taylor.
