Marion John Mulder, the son of Minko and Anna (Brolsma) Mulder, was born on October 14, 1928 on a farm near Sheldon. He was the first of two children. He attended the Floyd #7 country school adjacent to his family home through the 8th grade and graduated from Sheldon High School in 1946. He farmed with his parents prior to his marriage and served in the Iowa National Guard for 8 years from 1948 to 1956.
Marion was united in marriage to Lenora Faye Poppens on February 2, 1954, at the First Reformed Church in Sioux Falls, SD. Following their marriage, they made their home on the family farm near Sheldon. The couple was blessed with six children, five boys and one girl. Marion became a bus driver for the Sheldon Community School District as he gradually transitioned away from farming after almost 45 years. He drove a school bus for 17 years, describing this as the favorite job of his lifetime.
Marion was a lifelong member of the First Reformed Church in Sheldon. He also followed his father as a bank director for the Security State Bank in Sheldon and served in that capacity for several years. Marion loved to go on cattle buying trips in his earlier years. He also loved going to local gas stations or restaurants to share coffee with his friends or to local high school sporting events. He also enjoyed riding around the area to see nearby towns and how the crops were doing.
Marion was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by his six children, Mark (Sharon) Mulder of Sioux Falls, SD, Scott (Julie) Mulder of Lenexa, KS, Lorin (Glenda) Mulder of Laurens, IA, Lisa (Bob Lenertz) Mulder of The Woodlands, TX, Steven (Lynn) Mulder of Sibley, IA , Lynn (Megan) Mulder of Omaha, NE; twelve grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren.
