Mary Ann Antionette Penning

Mary Ann Antionette Penning, 94 years old, of Granville, Iowa died on Saturday April 7, 2012 at Heritage House Nursing Home in Orange City, IA.

Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 11, 2012 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Granville with Rev. Richard Ball officiating. Burial will be in the St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery in Granville. Visitation will be anytime after 4 p.m. on Tuesday, April 10, 2012. There will be a parish rosary at 5 p.m., and a vigil prayer service at 7 p.m., all at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Granville. Services have been entrusted to Fisch Funeral Home and Monument in Remsen.

Mary Ann was born July 25,1917, in Granville,IA. She was the daughter of Jacob & Cecelia (Goebel) Klein. Mary Ann was raised in the Granville area and received her education at St. Joseph’s Catholic School in Granville.
On June 3, 1941, she married Julius J. (Jule) Penning in Granville. The couple farmed in the Granville area until 1970 and moved into Granville in 1986.

Mary Ann was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church and church guild, Catholic Daughters of America & Catholic Order of Foresters.
Survivors include her thirteen children, Joellen (Jo) Penning of Omaha, NE, Stanley D. of Clinton, IN, Thomas J. & his wife Nancy of Owatonna, MN, Alan H. of Watertown, SD, Duane E. & his wife Teresa of Granville, Conrad L. & his wife Mickey of Sumas, WA, Judith, Kirschbaum & her husband Frank of Rockford, IL, Mary Kay Fry & her husband Steve of Gunnison, CO, Julius H. of Houston, TX, Junell Grady & her husband Steve of Archer, IA, Pamela Plathe & her husband Kevin of Alton, IA, Therese Jungers & her husband Kenneth of Hospers, IA, Suzanne Plathe & her husband Reed of LeMars, IA; 41 grandchildren, 58 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Sister Tresa Klein O.S.F. of Dubuque, IA, two sisters-in-law, Lucille Bueltel of Sioux City, IA & Kitty Penning of Granville, IA.

Preceded in death by her parents, her husband Jule, March 23, 1992; her son, Merlin, in 2002; her granddaughter, Martha Mary Penning (infant daughter of Merlin).

Casket bearers will be her sons, Stanley, Thomas, Alan, Duane, Conrad & Julius
