Phyllis Vander Linden, age 81 of Ashton, Iowa passed away Thursday, June 15, 2023, at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD.
A prayer service will take place at 9:00 AM Thursday, June 22nd at the First Reformed Church in Sibley with burial to follow at Gilman Township Cemetery in Ashton.
A memorial service will be at 10:30 AM, Thursday, June 22, 2023 at the First Reformed Church in Sibley, Iowa with Reverend Troy Van Beek officiating.
Visitation will be Wednesday, June 21st from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at Jurrens Funeral Home of Sibley.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials directed to Inspiration Hills and The World Home Bible League.
Phyllis Vander Linden was born January 5, 1942, the daughter of Leonard and Alice (Damstra) Dykstra. She grew up near Bigelow, Minnesota and graduated from Western Christian High School in 1960. She was employed by Northwestern Bell in Sheldon for 13 years.
On November 6, 1964, she married Paul Vander Linden. The Vander Lindens farmed near Archer for 4 years, moving to Ashton in 1968. They farmed until 2013. Phyllis had a large vegetable and flower garden. She shared flower arrangements and vegetables with many. She was a good cook and was eager to try new recipes. She then shared them with her many friends. She enjoyed Tuesday afternoon games, bowling, and gatherings with The Golden Girls. She was named Master Farm Homemaker in 2010. She served on the Osceola County Republican Central Committee, and as president of the Osceola Farm Bureau.
Phyllis was a member of Sibley First Reformed Church, where she taught Sunday School and led bible studies.
Phyllis is survived by her husband of 58 years, Paul; children, Peggi (Don) Thies of Melvin, IA, Polly (Rick) Schau of Orange City, IA; grandchildren, Paige Thies (fiancé, John Miedema), Amelia (Kendall) Ten Haken, Emma Thies, Dillon (Joanna) Thies, Trevor Sanson, Colten (Brooke) Schau, and Megan Schau; great grandchildren, Hadleigh, Gracelynn, Ava, Emerson, and Josiah; sisters-in-law, Betty (John) Kreykes of Sheldon, IA, Julia Merley of Sheldon, IA, Trudy Dykstra of Sibley, IA, Lavonne Dykstra of Bigelow, MN, Ercel Dykstra of Worthington, MN, and Ardis Dykstra of Phoenix, AZ; and brother-in-law, Dennis Vander Linden of Phoenix, AZ.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Leonard and Alice; granddaughter, Madeline Sanson; sisters: Joyce Weg and Grace Silvis; brothers: David, Robert “Bob”, Larry, and Herb.
