WillaJean Polacek

3183792WillaJean Polacek, age 76, of Sheldon, Iowa and formerly of the Archer area, passed away on Monday, June 1st at Sanford Medical Center in Sheldon.

Her service will be Saturday, June 6th at 11:00 am at the First Reformed Church in Archer with Rev. Jeremy Wiersema officiating. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery in George, Iowa.

Visitation will be after 3:00 pm on Friday, June 5th with the family present from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at the Vander Ploeg Funeral Home in Sheldon, Iowa.

WillaJean Polacek, the daughter of Willard and Veda (Wilts) Harms was born May 30, 1939 on a farm near Sanborn, Iowa. At the age of 4 years, she moved with her parents to Archer, Iowa in 1944. There she received her education and graduated from the Archer Consolidated School in 1957. Jean then went on to further her education in Sioux Falls, South Dakota as a Certified Nurse’s Aide. WillaJean was united in marriage to Richard “Dick” Polacek on September 25, 1959 in Cherokee, Iowa. The couple lived in several communities in western Iowa throughout their married life. They were blessed with 2 children; Valerie and Rick. Her husband, Richard preceded her in death on August 30, 1993 in Sheldon, Iowa. Willa Jean worked as a nurse’s aide in various hospitals and nursing homes in the area, she also worked as a waitress on the school lunch program, and she was a supervisor at the Recreation Center at NCC and a homemaker. WillaJean moved into Sheldon in 1994, from 2008-2014, she was a resident of Fieldcrest Assisted Living in Sheldon and in November of 2014, she became a resident of Sanford Sheldon Senior Care. She passed away on Monday, June 1, 2015, at the Sanford Sheldon Medical Center in Sheldon, Iowa reaching the age of 76 years and 2 days.

Willa Jean was a member of the Archer First Reformed Church in Archer, Iowa and of the Sheldon Eagles Club. She enjoyed crafts, playing cards & bingo, spending time with her family and friends.

She leaves to cherish her memory; a daughter and her husband, Valerie and Bryan Watson and a son and his wife, Rick and Beth Polacek all of Boyden, Iowa; 2 stepdaughters, Judy Polacek of Oregon and Julie Hageman of Yutan, Nebraska; 5 grandchildren, Aaron Watson, Adam Watson, Nicole Polacek, Carlye Jo Polacek, Cassidy Polacek; 3 step grandchildren, Carmella Uptagraft, Venessa Thompson and Brandon Hageman; 10 step great-grandchildren and a niece, Sandy Major of Albia, Iowa

She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard; a stillborn daughter; a sister and her husband, Darlyne and Harvey Folden and a nephew, Bob Folden.
