Winerva Hulstein, age 92, of George, formerly of Sioux Center, died on Tuesday, December 20, 2022, at the Good Samaritan Society in George.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, December 26, 2022, at the Jurrens Funeral Home in George, Iowa with Reverend Duane Tinklenberg officiating. Interment will follow a time of fellowship at the Carmel Cemetery of rural Rock Valley.
A visitation will be held from 10:00AM on Monday until the time of the service.
The Jurrens Funeral Home in George is in charge of the arrangements for 92-year-old Winerva Hulstein.
Winerva Hulstein was born November 4, 1930, in Carmel, Iowa, the daughter of Conrad and Grace (Van Maanen) Hulstein. She was raised near Carmel, IA and attended country school. After her education she did housekeeping and provided childcare for family and friends. Later in life she was the primary caretaker for her parents until their death. She lived in her home at Sioux Center, Iowa until she could not care for herself. She was a member of the Bethel Christian Reformed Church in Sioux Center. She enjoyed playing cards, reading the newspaper, walking and riding her bicycle, needle work, gardening, flowering and canning produce from the garden. She also spent many hours updating her family genealogy records.
She moved to Premier Estates in Rock Rapids in July of 2013 and entered the Rock Rapids Health Centre in February of 2017, where she joined her twin sister. In January of 2021 Winerva and her twin, Minerva entered the Good Samaritan Society in George. She remained there until her death, this past Tuesday, December 20, 2022, when she died at the age of 92.
She is survived by her twin sister, Minerva Vander Streek of George, IA; many nieces, nephews and other extended family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Conrad G. and Grace Hulstein; sisters, Etta Bakker, Mina Albertha Hulstein, Carolyn De Kam, Emma Vogel, Gertrude Vonk, Viola Langfeldt and Myna Nyhof; brothers, Frederick Hulstein, Albertus Hulstein; and many brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
