Sheldon, Iowa — Village Northwest Unlimited hosted the 11th annual Run, Walk & Roll event on Saturday June 4th. With 369 registered participants, the event raised over $61,000 through corporate sponsorships, private donations and registration fees. The event included a 1 mile walk, 5K run and 10K run.
This year’s event featured a special team duo in the Men’s age 20-29 division. Village resident, Tim Cargin, competed in the 5K run with Pastor Mark Waterstone of Sanborn, IA. Mark pushed Tim through the race for a finish time of 23:46.75, earning them the win in their age category. Cargin and Waterstone trained together for several weeks ahead of the event to ensure that Tim was comfortable in his jogger and with his equipment.
Sharon Cargin, Tim’s mother, says, “I cannot thank Village Northwest Unlimited and especially Mark and Samantha Waterstone enough for all the training and adaptations they made for Tim to run in the Run Walk & Roll. Mark & Sam are true servants of God and man.”
The Run, Walk & Roll is a wonderful opportunity for the community to come together in support of individuals with disabilities. With the option to do either the mile, 5K or 10K, it’s an event where people of all abilities are able to participate. All funds raised from the Run Walk & Roll are used to provide services and programming with purpose, privacy and dignity for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, autism spectrum disorder, and traumatic brain injuries.
