Sioux City, Iowa – The two brackets for the 2015 Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) Postseason Baseball Tournaments are set. Top seed, and regular season champion, Briar Cliff will serve as one bracket host (1,4,5,8 seeds), while second seed Doane will be the other bracket host (2,3,6,7 seeds) for the two four-team tournaments. 2015 is the first year that the GPAC is using the new format for the postseason.
Tournament play will open on Thursday, April 30th at both bracket locations. In Sioux City the Briar Cliff Bracket will host Northwestern, Mount Marty, and Midland. In Crete, Nebraska the Doane Bracket will host Morningside, Hastings and Dakota Wesleyan. Games will continue on Friday, May 1st, with the bracket championship games on Saturday, May 2nd. The Briar Cliff and Doane bracket winners will meet on Tuesday, May 5th, in the GPAC Baseball Tournament Championship Game. The final game will be a single nine-inning contest.
Briar Cliff has secured the league’s first berth to the NAIA Opening Round, while the GPAC Tournament Champion will receive the second berth. If Briar Cliff wins the GPAC Tournament then the regular season runner-up (Doane) will receive the second GPAC berth to the NAIA Opening Round.
All games in the GPAC Tournament are nine innings and the two brackets will be double elimination. The overall GPAC Baseball Championship Game is a winner take all contest (9 innings) regardless of prior records in bracket play.
