Sioux City, Iowa – The 2018 Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) Football All-Conference Team has been selected after a vote of the league coaches on Sunday, November 11.
Trent Solsma of Morningside has been named the Hauff Mid-America Sports/GPAC Offensive Player-of-the-Year. Joel Katzer of Morningside and Bryce Van Beek of Northwestern were named the Hauff Mid-America Sports/GPAC Defensive Co-Players-of-the-Year. Steve Ryan of Morningside College was named the Hauff Mid-America/GPAC Coach-of-the-Year.
Morningside was the regular season conference champion for 2018 finishing 9-0 in GPAC play and 11-0 overall. The Mustangs and regular season runner-up, Northwestern, qualified for the NAIA Football Championship Series which opens on Saturday, Nov. 17, with first round action. Morningside will host Rock Mountain College (Mont.), while Northwestern will host Dickinson State (N.D.).
Named to the first team offense from Northwestern was running back Jacob Kalogonis, slot receiver Shane Solberg, and offensive lineman Paxton De Haan.
Dordt wide receiver Levi Jungling made the first team offense for the Defenders.
Defensive first teamers from Northwestern were linebacker Tanner Machacek, and defensive back Bryce Van Beek.
2nd teamers from Northwestern were quarterback Tyson Kooima, and offensive lineman Brad Mould. For Dordt, Keithen Drury earned second team honors at running back. Defensively, Northwestern’s defensive lineman Nate Bennett, linebacker Sean Powell, and defensive back Logan Richard earned 2nd team honors. Dordt’s defensive lineman David Kacmarynski, and defensive backs Casey Byker and Nathan Kabongo made the 2nd team as well.
