Dordt College will be the number one seed when the 2018 Cypress Risk Management Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) Volleyball Tournament opens on Saturday, November 3. The Defenders were the regular season champion with a perfect 16-0 league record.
The two seed with be Northwestern, who finished in a tie with Hastings and Midland at 13-3 in league play. The GPAC tie-breakers placed the Red Raiders as the two seed, Hastings is the three seed and Midland the fourth seed.
Jamestown will be the five seed, with Morningside the sixth seed. The final two seeds were between four teams and Doane is the seven seed while Concordia is the #8 seed in the tournament. Doane, Concordia, Briar Cliff, and Dakota Wesleyan all went 5-11 in conference play. GPAC tie-breakers broke the four-way tie as well.
Dordt will receive the GPAC regular season automatic berth to the 2018 NAIA National Volleyball Championship. The Cypress Risk Management GPAC Volleyball Tournament winner (runner-up if Dordt wins) also receives an automatic berth to the NAIA National Volleyball Championship.
The 2018 NAIA Volleyball National Championship includes a field of 44 teams. Twenty-four teams will compete in 12 opening round matches played on campus sites nationwide on November 17. The top 19 seeds and final site host (TBA) receive an opening round bye. Opening round winners will join the top 19 and host at the final site for a 32-team pool play NAIA National Championship starting on November 27 in Sioux City at the Tyson Events Center.
