The 2019 Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) Softball All-Conference team has been announced after a vote of league coaches. This year’s GPAC All-Conference Team consists of a first-team, second-team, and an honorable mention list.
Two Northwestern players, Jennifer Boeve and Emily Bosch, claimed second team honors.
Boeve hit a team-best .380 in her first season with the Red Raiders, scoring 28 runs and driving in 20. The freshman hit 12 doubles and accounted for 14 extra-base hits. A standout in the field as well, Boeve committed just four errors and ranked 10th in the GPAC with 74 assists from her third base spot in the infield.
Bosch, now a two-time, second-team selection, batted .336 with 15 extra-base hits and 20 RBIs this season. The sophomore was second on the team in runs scored (33) and ranked third in the GPAC with 16 stolen bases. Bosch was a standout defensively as she did not commit an error in 58 chances playing left-field.
Both Madison Beaver and Amber Schubert received honorable mention honors.
Beaver, now a three-time all-conference selection, hit .308 with 27 runs and 21 RBIs. The senior belted three home runs, totaled 13 extra-base hits and was outstanding in centerfield for the last two years. Schubert was one of the top hitters for Head Coach Shane Bouman’s squad, ranking among the GPAC’s top 10 in both home runs (6) and RBIs (33).
Schubert hit .325, third best on the team, with 18 extra-base hits and ranked 10th in the GPAC with 34 runs scored. The senior was a mainstay at first base, committing only three errors in 318 chances for a 99% fielding percentage.
Three Defenders were accorded honors in balloting done by the conference coaches.
Rachel Evavold (Junior; Bloomington, Minnesota) was named to the first-team for the second year in a row after batting .388 with 13 doubles, three homeruns and 18 runs batted in. Evavold posted an 8-7 record with a 3.77 earned run average and struck out 59 batters in 87 innings pitched.
Tianna Soodsma (Senior; Luverne, Minnesota) was named honorable mention for the third time and earned post-season honors for the fourth time. This season Soodsma was 8-9 on the mound with a 2.87 earned run average with 134 innings pitched and 76 strikeouts. Soodsma ends her career with 45 pitching wins (3rd all-time), 300 strikeouts (3rd all-time), five saves (1st all-time) and a 6.12 strikeout to walk ratio (1st all-time).
Marissa VanDenBerg (Junior; Wyoming Michigan) was named to the honorable mention list and she has earned post-season honors after all three of her seasons. She batted .279 this season with eight doubles and 14 runs batted in. She played shortstop and had 122 assists on defense.
