Sioux City, Iowa – A Northwestern College Red Raider and a Dordt University Defender have earned Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) Men’s Indoor Track-and-Field Athlete-of-the-Week honors as announced by the GPAC Wednesday, February 4th.
Braden Kalvelage from Hastings College is this week’s field athlete-of-the-week. Kalvelage, a senior from Hastings, Nebraska, was part of two record-breaking performances last weekend, winning the long jump at the Concordia Classic with a school-record mark of 7.62 meters. He also opened the 4×400-meter relay on a team that broke the school record at 3:20.
Kalvelage’s long jump mark is currently third in the NAIA.
Isaac Davelaar of Dordt University is this week’s track athlete-of-the-week. Davelaar, a junior from Sioux Falls, South Dakota, hit the ‘B’ standard in three events at the Mark Schuck Open last weekend.
On Friday, Davelaar ran the 800-meter leg of the Defenders first-place Distance Medley relay team that hit the provisional standard with the sixth-best time in the NAIA.
Davelaar came back on Saturday with a pair of outstanding performances. In the 400 he finished second in a loaded field with a ‘B’ standard time of 48.28 seconds. He is currently ranked 13th in the NAIA in the event.
Davelaar concluded the weekend by anchoring the Defenders 4×400-meter relay to a second-place finish with the eighth-best time in the NAIA.
