Alexis Conaway Named Candidate for Senior CLASS Award

Ames Iowa – Iowa State senior Alexis Conaway has been named a candidate for the Senior CLASS Award. An MOC Floyd Valley graduate, Conaway is one of 30 women’s volleyball players selected as a candidate.

To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence: community, classroom, character and competition.

An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School, the Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.

Conaway is one of Iowa State University’s top student-athletes in competition and off the court. Conaway is a pervious All-Big 12 First Team honoree and a two-time Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week, boasting one of the highest career hitting percentages in program history. This season, she has taken on changing positions to outside hitter and playing all six rotations. Since the move, Conaway has averaged 2.41 kills per set while recording three double-doubles.

Outside of volleyball, Conaway is a 4.0 GPA student in kinesiology. She is also an active participant in Iowa State’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, playing a major role in setting up and executing community service projects by Iowa State student-athletes.

The 30 candidates will be narrowed to 10 finalists midway through the regular season, and those 10 names will be placed on the official ballot. Ballots will be distributed through a nationwide voting system to media, coaches and fans, who will select one candidate who best exemplifies excellence in the four Cs of community, classroom, character and competition. The Senior CLASS Award winner will be announced during the 2017 NCAA Division I Women’s Volleyball Championship in December.
