Ames, Iowa – Iowa State quarterback Rocco Becht has been named to the Davey O’Brien Award’s Great 8 for Week 2.
It marks the second time in Becht’s career he has been named to the Great 8 list.
Becht led Iowa State to a 20-19 comeback victory at No. 21 Iowa Saturday. The Cyclones trailed 13-0 at halftime, and 19-7 with less than five minutes remaining in the third quarter but left with their second- consecutive win in Kinnick Stadium.
The Wesley Chapel, Fla. native made several key plays late in the game, first when he found Jaylin Noel for a 75-yard touchdown pass late in the third quarter to cut the ISU deficit to 19-14. Becht later found Noel again for a 30-yard completion with less than 30 seconds remaining to set up the game-winning 54-yard field goal.
Becht started the game 11-of-19 for only 72 yards and an interception, but finished strong, going 12-of-16 for 200 yards and two touchdowns to engineer the comeback. His final stat line read 23-of-35 for 272 yards, two touchdowns and an interception.
The winner of the Davey O’Brien Award National Quarterback of the Week will be announced Tuesday at 11 a.m. (CT).
