Big 2nd Half Propels Western To District Final

Hull, Iowa — A big third quarter gave Western Christian the breathing room needed to get their tournament opener win 59-42 over Central Lyon Thursday night in Hull.

It was a back and forth affair early but Western Christian took a 17-11 lead into the second quarter. Central Lyon battled back and took a 23-19 lead late in the first half, but Western tied the game up at 25-25 heading into halftime. Western’s Wyatt Gulker went off for 11 third quarter points to give Western the 43-34 lead heading into the fourth. The Wolfpack cruised in the final eight minutes and came away with the 59-42 win.

Western got a game high 21 points from Gulker, and Ty Van Essen added 15. Central Lyon got a team high 18 points from Zach Lutmer.

With the win, Western improves to 17-4 on the year and will play Rock Valley at Sheldon on Tuesday, February 23rd. Central Lyon’s year comes to a close at 16-7.
