Des Moines Iowa — Boyden Hull hoisted the 2A Championship trophy late Friday afternoon following a 65-53 win over defending Champion North Linn. For the Comets it’s their first Class 2A title and their fourth state title overall. The Comets won back to back 1A titles in the spring of 2012 and again in 2013.
The Comets led at all the breaks. They were up 13-12 at the end of the first quarter. That was pushed to a 26-20 halftime lead. Boyden Hull took control of the game in the third quarter leading 47-31 heading into the fourth quarter. The final 8 minutes were more of the same with the Comets celebrating a 64-51 win after falling to the Linx in the Championship game a year ago.
Boyden Hull was led by Andrew Frick with a 22 point game. Tanner Te Slaa hit for 21 with Keyton Moser adding 13. Te Slaa, Moser and Marcus Kelderman were all named to the 2A All-Tournament Team. North Lynn got a game high 23 points from All-Tournament Team Captain Austin Miller. Austin Hilmer hit for a dozen and earned All-Tournament Team honors as well.
Keys for Boyden Hull were a 38-20 scoring advantage in the paint and a 12-6 advantage in points off turnovers along with a 6-0 edge in fast break points. The Comets were in control throughout as they held the lead for all but a minute fifty nine in the contest.
With the win Boyden Hull finishes at 24-3 handing North Linn their first loss of the season against the Lynx 26 wins.
